Overview

NetNanny is a software filter that is made by ContentWatch. The strength of this filter is its online reporting and management which allows parents to control and monitor their home computers from anywhere that they can gain access to the Internet. NetNanny allows parents to create different accounts for each member of the family, and to configure individual settings for each person. This means that your 4 year old can only have access to a handful of websites, but your college age child can access much more. Time controls, social networking reports, game settings and all other settings can be individually configured for each user.

Pros

Powerful reports and individualized settings make it easy to investigate attempts to access inappropriate content in the home. This is a powerful content filter that provides the flexibility for parents to control the Internet access in their home the way they want to do it.

Cons

This solution will not help with game consoles and wireless devices that connect to the Internet in your home – it will only protect the computers on which it can be installed. If you have multiple operating systems in your home (Windows and Mac), you will have to configure and report on them separately. Also, if you have many computers in the home, this solution can get expensive quickly.
